Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to tint a vehicle?
There are a few factors that go into window tint pricing. Number of pieces of glass, size of the glass, age of the vehicle and difficulty of the install being the main factors. Current install prices can be found at https://www.alamotintstudio.com/pricing . If the vehicle currently has tint, a removal will need to be quoted. Full vehicle removals start at $150 but can dramatically go up in price depending on the size of the vehicle and condition of the film currently on it. Text or call for an accurate quote for your vehicle.
What are your hours and do you tint on weekends?
No walk-ins. Vehicle appointments are set for times between 6am and 2pm Monday-Friday. I’m around to answer questions until 5pm Monday-Friday (sometimes later). I do offer 1 vehicle appointment slot for Saturday mornings but those are typically booked a few weeks out. Message me for info on the first available Saturday. For residential or commercial installation, inquire via the contact page, call or text.
How does drop off and pickup work?
If you haven’t noticed already. The shop is my house. You will see me out there in the shop prepping for your appointment as you pull up or I will receive a notification from the multiple security cameras that somebody has arrived and will come out to meet you. You are expected to have a ride home, but there are a couple restaurants and a walking trail within walking distance if you just want to kill some time and wait on a couple rollups or something quick. First thing that happens at drop is a walk around video and pictures of the vehicle highlighting any flaws and a check of the glass condition, seals and sweeps. If all is good, I begin tinting your vehicle. When nearing completion of the film installation you will receive a message from me with a update picture and an estimated time for pickup. Typically this message is about 30 minutes from completion. Payment is taken at pickup after a walk around, learning about the curing process and aftercare instructions. Payment can be credit, debit, or cash. Cameras stay on the vehicle from drop off through pickup and recordings are stored.
Do you offer mobile service?
Not for vehicles. To ensure the cleanest install possible, I must have control over the environment. Mobile automotive tinters are a great convenience and needed in some cases, but the risk of contamination under the film is greatly increased when the installer cannot control the environment.
Do you cut on my glass?
No. All patterns are computer cut to avoid the etching of your glass. Shaved edges are available though on frameless rollups for an additional charge.
How long does it take?
A typical 4 door sedan or small SUV takes 3 hours. I ask for 4 to account for any issues that may arise. Larger SUVs, Vans or vehicles with additional ports or quarters add time. 2 front rollups usually can be out within an hour. I am a “It’s ready when it’s ready” type though. If it’s not up to my standard, I’ll redo whatever I feel needs to be redone and that can add on significant time. If any issues arise I am transparent and will send you an updated estimated pickup time.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. All films I offer feature a lifetime warranty against cracking, bubbling, peeling or fading (color change). I do not offer any 3 year automotive films due to the harsh Texas sun. For additional details on the warranty reach out via the contact form or text.
Do you tint windshields?
I carry a virtually clear UV film with exceptional heat rejection for windshields. But due to Texas law I do not shade windshields. Shaded windshield strips (eyebrows) to the AS1 line are allowed though.
Can I pick the shades for my vehicle and does the shade change the price?
Yes you can pick your shade and no it doesn’t change the price. All of my automotive film options come in 4 shades. Texas law requires the front rollups only go down to a net 25% VLT. You can go as dark as you want down to a 5% film on the rear section. My recommendation is keeping it between 10-20% on the rear section to ensure backup visibility, unless privacy is the main goal you have.
Why is it hazy and bubbly after install?
Window film is installed wet and requires a few days to cure and clear out. This typically takes 2-5 days for automotive and up to 30 days for commercial or residential.
Are these white specks after a week normal?
To a degree. I strive for the cleanest install possible, but due to dust floating in the air or on the vehicle surfaces and upholstery, most tint jobs will have at least a couple specks. The ultimate goal is to be speck free. If you have a window with an excessive number of specks, contact me and we can look at giving that one another try. One way you can help ensure your tint job comes out as clean as possible is having a professional detailer clean the vehicle before your appointment or to get the vehicle tinted immediately following purchase when it has just gone through a “Make Ready”.
Why am I seeing rainbows?
Chances are you are wearing polarized sunglasses or looking through the tint at a very steep angle in just the right light. This rainbow effect is called “birefringence” and is found in tempered glass and in various window coatings with nano particle technology when viewed through polarized lenses or at certain angles. Ceramic and carbon window film are nano particle films and can produce this effect when viewed under the right circumstances. For most the effect is not an issue, but some may find it distracting. I suggest switching to non polarized lenses for your sunglasses if the rainbow effect bothers you.
Can you fix bubbled, purple, and deteriorating film?
There is no fix for that. But I can remove the failed film for a fee and install new film at a small discount. It’s important to know that all film fails on a long enough timeline. Some films perform far better than others and lifetime warranties come with all my automotive film options to save you from this kind of headache. Do not wait to get your film replaced when you notice the beginnings of failure. The longer you wait, the more difficult and expensive the removal can become. All removal fees are subject to a visual inspection of the current film before quote. Warranty work on vehicles I tinted come with removal labor by me, free of charge.
Something damaged my film. Is that covered under warranty?
In most cases no. External damage from being scratched, slashed, glass breakage, use of ammonia based or abrasive cleaners, etc is not covered under warranty. But if you had the car originally tinted by me, I do offer discounted replacement.
Who are you and why should I choose you for my tint?
My name is Jeff Olivarri, otherwise known online as That Tint Guy Jeff. I have 20+ years experience applying window film and vinyl on glass. I was trained by some of the best in South Texas and come from over a decade working for a high end shop in San Antonio, TX. Now I have gone solo to start my own shop right here in Jarrell, TX. Through my career I’ve tinted everything from classic cars to exotics, to heavy machinery and military equipment. I’ve tinted places like the Alamodome, Texas Parks & Wildlife HQ, numerous San Antonio Riverwalk hotels, hospitals, and office buildings. I’ve tinted trailers and multi-million dollar mansions. Even installed miles of decorative film work down the halls of universities and office environments. My tint career has taken me through it all and given me the skills and knowledge needed to advise on or complete whatever window film project you may have.
